What is the LinkedIn “see more” fold?

In the feed, LinkedIn shows only the first few lines of a post. Everything after that sits behind “…see more”. Most readers decide from those lines alone whether to tap.

That makes your first line the most important sentence in the post. If the point is hidden below the fold, or the opening sounds like every other post, people keep scrolling.

How the preview works

  • Your post is laid out at the width and font size of the LinkedIn feed, right in your browser, so it wraps the way it does on screen.
  • The fold is the first of two limits: about 3 lines, or about 210 characters on desktop and 140 on mobile. Each line break starts a new line.
  • The cut never splits an emoji or a letter, and it prefers ending at a word, like the real feed.
  • LinkedIn does not publish these numbers and they vary by device and app version, so treat the preview as a close estimate.

How the hook score works

The score adds up the weights of the checks your first line passes (half for “almost”). It describes how well the opening follows common best practice. It does not predict reach, which depends on your audience and LinkedIn’s ranking.

Formatting tips for LinkedIn posts

  • Put the point first

Lead with the result, the problem or the surprising part. Context can come after the fold.

  • Break the first line

A line break after the hook makes it stand out and leaves room for a second line.

  • Short paragraphs

One to three lines each. On a phone, long paragraphs look like work.

  • Hashtags at the end

Three to five relevant hashtags, after your message, not in the hook.

  • Emoji with purpose

Use a few to guide the eye, such as list markers, not to decorate every line.

  • End with a question

A specific question invites comments from people who have something to add.

LinkedIn post questions

How many characters show before “see more” on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn does not publish an exact number. Posts are commonly cut after about three lines, which is roughly 210 characters on desktop and 140 on mobile. Line breaks and emoji change this, which is why this tool lays your post out the way the feed does.

Do line breaks change where LinkedIn cuts my post?

Yes. Each line break starts a new line, and the preview shows about three lines, so a post with many short lines folds sooner than a post written as one paragraph.

What is the LinkedIn post character limit?

LinkedIn posts can be up to 3,000 characters.

Is my post stored or sent anywhere?

No. The preview and the checks run entirely in your browser. Your text is not sent to WriteBeta or anyone else, and nothing is saved.

Does a higher hook score mean more reach?

Not necessarily. The score checks your opening against common best practice. Reach also depends on your network, timing and LinkedIn’s ranking, which no tool can predict.

Is this tool made by LinkedIn?

No. WriteBeta is not affiliated with LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a trademark of LinkedIn Corporation.
